William "Bill" Battenfield, 93, left this life on August 29, 2023. William known to most as Bill was born to Jessie "Jake" Lee and Sibbie Battenfield on March 22, 1930, in Greenleaf Cherokee County, OK. Bill grew up and lived in Muskogee, OK. He married Sylvia Bell McFarland on October 15, 1949. Over the next 74 years, they shared a life full of love, traveling, and family.
Bill was known for his love of family, friends, and cars. He raced cars for much of his young life and spent the other years trading, selling, and working on cars with those he loved. He was known for his generous heart and his willingness to help those he cared for whenever he could. He was a wonderful brother, husband, father, and papa. Those who knew him loved him deeply and find comfort in knowing that he loved them with all his heart.
Bill is survived by his wife Sylvia; 4 children Richard and his wife Carol Battenfield, Jeanne Mortensen, Jerry Battenfield, and Connie and her husband Tom Hogle. Alongside his children, he was loved and cherished by his 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers; 6 sisters-in-laws; 1 brother-in-law; and 1 son, Billy Battenfield.
Bill will be remembered fondly by those who knew him, missed dearly by those who loved him, and forever cherished by all.
Viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2023, at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee with Reverend Kelly Payne officiating. Interment will follow at South Bethel Cemetery in Braggs, OK. Bill's grandsons will serve as Pallbearers for the service: Wayne, Adam, William, Billy, Justin, Mark, Joshua, and Tom. Services under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home.
