William J. 'Bill' Batton, 88, of Huntsville, AL, passed away on October 16, 2024, at his home. William was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 29, 1936. He graduated from Shaw High School in 1955, where he lettered in both football (quarterback) and basketball (point guard). He went on to Fenn College (Cleveland State), where he majored in finance. After college, he joined The National Cash Register Co. as a salesman and eventually became regional manager in Dallas, Texas. In 1978, he started his own cash register/computer business which he successfully operated until he retired in 2018.
William served his country for 3 years as a proud member of the U.S. Navy stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid.
Survivors include his son, Bill; brother, Philip Moyer; sister, Patricia Sparks; and six nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne and son, James.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Father Tim Pfander officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
Bill was a successful businessman, a loving husband and father, and friend to all children. His kind nature, patience, and love of children were his exceptional gifts. With that thought in mind, it is requested that any memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 35801.
