William Bayersdorfer "Bill" of Mahwah, born May 2, 1938 in Hackensack, NJ passed peacefully early in the morning of August 23, 2024. He is pre-deceased by his brother James and his longtime partner Ernestine Banach. Bill grew up in Bogota and was a star athlete in football and track. He was in the Army Reserves as a young man. Bill moved his young family from Bogota to Mahwah, NJ in 1967. Not only was Bill a friend and mentor to his children by being involved in the particular interests of each child, but he extended his leadership and influence by being involved with the community including little league football, basketball, baseball and scouts. He was on the Board of Directors of the Hackensack YMCA where he engaged in fundraising and programs for underprivileged youths. His real passion was swimming. He coached swim teams at both Bogota Swim Club and the YMCA of Hackensack. Many of the kids in Mahwah who he had an influence on always remembered him and asked about him through the years. One of his former scouts said that the best thing he ever learned from Bill was how to roll up a hose. He will be missed by many, especially all his friends at Brandywine Senior Living of Mahwah.
Bill is survived by his son William "Jay" (Mary) of Ramsey, NJ, Geoffrey (Robyn) of Granby, CT, Constance Lise of San Francisco, CA and three grandchildren, Lauren Bayersdorfer of Woodbridge, NJ, Kaylee Bayersdorfer of Farmington, CT and John Bayersdorfer of Boston, MA.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday August 28,2024,4-7pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home,257 Godwin Ave.
Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A funeral service is planned for Thursday 10am at the funeral home. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ
