William George Bencze, of Greenfield Center, NY, passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital. Born on July 7, 1929, in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was the son of the late Julia Dunay Bencze and Frank Bencze.
William proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 747 Tank and Tractor Battalion and was stationed at Camp Cooke, California. His service to the nation remained a source of pride throughout his life.
Following his military service, William worked for many years with the local Carpenter Union 370 out of Albany, NY. He later continued his career at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs as a member of the maintenance staff until his retirement.
William lived a full and active life. He was a member of the Lions Club of Clearmont, FL, and a lifelong member of the Potter Brook Club. His greatest joys came from time spent outdoors-hunting, fishing, and camping were among his most cherished pastimes. He is predeceased by his brother, Frank, and his sisters-in-law, Bernice and Betty.
William is survived by his brother, Larry Bencze of Greenfield Center, NY. Nephew's Douglas and his wife Sarah, Cal and his wife Toni, and Glenn and his wife Marci, all from Tupper Lake NY. Nephew Gregg Bencze and also a niece Lisa Bencze from Greenfield Center NY. He is also lovingly remembered by several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Family and friends may call on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave.,
Saratoga Springs, NY. A burial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Saratoga, NY. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of William, please visit our floral store.
