DICK BENNETT
William Richardson "Dick" Bennett, age 80, husband of Betty Chapman Bennett, passed away on December 10, 2025, at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville County, South Carolina, he was the son of the late William Benjamin Bennett Jr. and Sarah Finley Bennett.
Dick dedicated more than 25 years of honorable service to Greenville County Law Enforcement, retiring as a Sergeant with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. Known for his professionalism, commitment, and integrity, he proudly served and protected his community throughout his career. He was a faithful member of Westminster First Baptist Church, where he found joy in worship and fellowship.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Bennett; his children, Allyson McDowell (Scott) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Dennis Daniel Smith Jr. (Kristi) of Chesapeake, Virginia; and his cherished grandchildren, Bennett McDowell, Noah McDowell, Lauren Yoncey (Chase), Taylor Stratton (Michael), Sydney Smith, and Cooper Smith. He is also survived by one precious great-grandchild, Jane Stratton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 13th, 2025, at Westminster First Baptist Church. His final resting place will be at Lickville Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pelzer, at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family is at their respective homes.
