SHREWSBURY
William A. Benoit, Sr., a beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 27, 2025. He was 90 years old. Born and raised in Northbridge, MA, Bill was one of nine children of Eugene and Doris (Montville) Benoit. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Carter Hall. Upon his return home, Bill began working several small jobs to assist in the support of his family. During this time, he met his future wife, Jacqueline A. Charette. The couple married in 1962 and resided for several years in Worcester before building their family home in Shrewsbury in 1966. They were longtime parishioners of Saint Anne's Parish in Shrewsbury.
A hardworking and determined man, for nearly ten years Bill owned and operated with integrity the Route 20 Truck Wash in Shrewsbury-on the site now occupied by Flynn's Truck Plaza. He then secured employment for 15 years in the maintenance department of GTE's Westborough plant. His tireless work ethic was second to none. For more than 30 years-and well into his 80s-Bill served as the trusted maintenance man at Saint Rose of Lima Parish in Northborough. Whether tidying up or fixing the small things others might overlook, he could always be found lending a quiet, steady hand. In earlier years, Bill enjoyed a night out for a nice dinner, dancing with Jackie. With a lifelong appreciation for dogs, Bill enjoyed training hunting Beagles.
Though a man of few words, Bill was never shy about sharing his thoughts when he had something to say. His dry wit and ever-present, sometimes flirtatious grin made others feel welcomed and at ease. A gentle soul with a kind heart, he will be dearly missed.
Bill leaves behind his son, William Benoit, Jr., of Worcester; his daughter, Michelle Sidoti of Shrewsbury; and three grandchildren: Shaylin Nutile, Daniel Sidoti, and Devin Benoit. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild in February 2026. Also surviving him are his sister-in-law Paula McNamara and her husband Raymond of Rhode Island, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline Benoit, who passed in 2022; his parents; his brothers Romeo, Roland, Leo, and Eugene Benoit; and his sisters Evelyn Cloutier, Pauline Duso, Josephine Lussier, and Jane Beauregard.
Calling hours will be held 5pm – 7pm on Tuesday, September 2nd at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Wednesday, September 3rd at Saint Rose of Lima Parish, 244 W. Main Street, Northborough. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
The Benoit family extends heartfelt thanks to Dorothy (nursing manager), to Adriana (CNA) and the entire staff of Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northborough for their compassion and care during Bill's final days. His family also respectfully request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the
Dementia Society of America, 188 N Main St, Doylestown, PA 18901 (https://www.dementiasociety.org).
