William "Bill" Bergman, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 15, 2025. He was born on December 25, 1952 in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Samuel and Theresa (Zappia) Bergman.
Bill's loves included his faith, his family, the Italian Street Festival, and his love of playing and listening to music. Bill never missed an opportunity to share fond memories about his parents and his Jewish - Italian Heritage including time spent with his Dad going to the Synagogue and dining at Shapiro's Deli. Bill went on to become a member of the Italian Heritage Society, and was recognized as a notable volunteer for over 20 years at the Italian Street Festival.
Growing up in Fountain Square, Bill was a proud Woodchuck as a graduate of Wood High School's class of 1971. He often reminisced about his younger days with family and those who became lifelong friends. He never met a stranger. One of his most notable memories was forming the Stallion band. Playing the drums was one of Bill's most honored past times. He had the honor to play on the first John "Cougar" Mellencamp album-Chestnut Street Incident. Most recently he was the distinguished drummer for the Audio Guild Band, M Squared, and Rattletrap bands – playing his last show with Audio Guild in March of 2025.
Bill's family will miss his sense of humor, ensuring the backdoor was always closed, driving around in his red truck with his dog Izzy riding shotgun. His sons will always remember his love of all things sports and hearing the Fox Sports notifications that came to his phone. His daughter will always cherish being his one and only baby girl, enjoying special jokes and playing an instrumental role in his care. More specifically, being the dad that she and her friends could always count on for a ride. There was a never a time when family and friends wouldn't catch Bill practicing his drumming by keeping the beat on his knees, or practicing with his sticks on his practice pad. Most of all, family and friends will recall his enduring love for his wife Diana and the wonderful life they created.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Diana Bergman; children, Anthony (Kristen) Bergman; Ryan (Francesca) Bergman; and Brooke Bergman; grandchildren include, Arianna Bergman, Devon Bergman, Darian Bergman, Braydon Bergman, Nevaeh Bergman and Brevin Bergman; great grandchildren, Ellianna Rutledge, Nayomi Bergman; siblings Becky McDonald; Nancy (Larry) Harvey; Jenny (Dale) Hendricks, Kevin (Jennifer) Bergman. Including his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Bergman; his mother, Theresa Bergman; his brother, Joseph Bergman; and sister, Judy Bergman.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday at G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 5141 Madison Avenue,
Indianapolis, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at St. Roch Catholic Church, 3600 S. Pennsylvania St. Indianapolis, 46227. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in the Garden of the Holy Family.
Being the kind, compassionate and giving man he was, the last legacy he left behind was the donation of his corneas, allowing someone else to see the world through his eyes.
