William "Russell" Bethel

Russell, age 75, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025. He was a resident of Hammond, LA. Russell proudly served in the Louisiana National Guard. He was a hardworking man who believed in the value of taking care of his family. Life didn't need to be complicated for Russell, he found his greatest peace at his camp down the river, where he loved building fires, sitting back, and enjoying time with those around him. Those moments, filled with laughter and quiet conversation, meant everything to him. Russell cherished traveling with his wife, appreciating both the journey and the memories they created together. His grandbabies held a special place in his heart, and he took immense pride in watching them grow. A simple man with a big heart, Russell always put his family first. He was an amazing husband, loving father, and the best Paw Paw you could ask for, and he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathy Bethel; daughter, Tonya Joiner (Justin); son, Bryant Bethel; sisters, JoAnn Dickens (Frank), Sherry Brown (Bobby); brothers, Faron Miley (Shelia), Wendell Miley (Wanda), Daron Miley (Flossy); grandchildren, Blake Bethel (Harley), Kileigh Muse (Brice), Clayton Bethel, Shelbie Alston (Conner), Mallorie Sagely (Hunter), Brodie Joiner; and great-grandchildren, Sawyer Bethel, Leland "Buddy" Bethel, Austyn Bethel, Brett Muse, Huntlee Sagely, and Russell "Russ" Luke Alston.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Nelda Miley.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401 on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Frank Dickens will officiate with interment to follow in Loranger Cemetery.
