Larry Ray Harmon

Larry Ray Harmon, at the age of 77, peacefully passed away on January 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He graduated from USL with a BA in Sociology/Social Welfare. He dedicated 21 years working at the Hammond Developmental Center as a teacher and later a supervisor and a safety coordinator. When he wasn't working, Larry was an avid and lifelong hunter. Above all his family meant everything to him. Larry leaves behind a legacy of memories to be held in the hearts of everyone that loves him.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Alice Harmon; daughters, Melissa Ann McCormick and husband Brian Patrick McCormick of Albany, LA, and Sandra Lee Mataya and husband Armand Joseph Mataya of Ponchatoula, LA; and grandchildren, Allen Joseph Mataya of the U.S. Navy.

Larry is preceded in death by his father, Charles Henry Harmon; mother, Ruth Geesey Harmon Sonnier; Stepfather, Earl Anthony Sonnier; and brothers, Jerry Harmon, Bryan Sonnier, and Marc Sonnier.

Relatives and friends are invited to a short graveside service on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Louisiana National Cemetery at 303 W. Mount Pleasant Rd. Zachary, LA. 70791.
