William (Bill) Solomon Binning, 81, of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away on January 7, 2025. Born May 27, 1943, to Fred R. and Bernice Binning, Bill had a distinguished career as a mechanical engineer with Flowserve Corporation (formerly Durametallic), where he traveled the world solving engineering challenges. While he was proud of his work, his greatest joy was his family. He was especially proud of his two sons, both engineers and dedicated fathers, and his four grandchildren.
Bill was a gifted craftsman. He built his own home, and enjoyed woodworking and metal working creating heirloom pieces that will be treasured by his family. He had a lifelong passion for classic cars, earning awards for his 1965 Mustang and 2009 Mustang GT California Special. Bill was a lifetime member of the Kalamazoo Antique Car Club where he volunteered his time to support club events. He was also a member of the West Michigan Mustang Club. Many lasting friendships were made through Bill’s work and car club affiliations.
For over 50 years, Bill worked alongside his wife, Sue, to maintain a beautiful lawn and garden which included an impressive hosta collection that was recognized by both national and state hosta societies. Bill will be remembered for his meticulous attention to detail and quality in everything he did.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sue (Sweet); sons, Brian (Susan) Binning and Jeff (Kate) Binning; grandchildren, Zach, Ella, Jake, and Molly; sisters, Carol Faith and Jackie Wells; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Fred Binning.
