William (Bill) H. Cox Sr. “Smoke”, 83, of Hopewell, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville. William was born on August 5, 1942, to the late William Everett and Anna Elizabeth (Morehouse) Cox, in Hebron, Ohio. He was a proud Marine Corps veteran, who served from 1962-1966. He worked in the Ohio strip mines and served as an Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary Officer. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lost Dutchman Mining Association. William retired after 18 years as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed gold panning and metal detecting.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma “June” (Quick) Cox of Hopewell; four children, Dianna “Lynn” Brown of Hopewell, Lucinda “Cindy” Finney of Hopewell, William (Deana) Cox Jr. of Hopewell, and John (Misti) Cox of Hopewell; six grandchildren, Tashia Cardec of Hopewell, John (Cassie) Brown of Hopewell, Tiara (Nathan) Baker of Senecaville, William (Amanda) Cox III of Hopewell, Allye (Steven) Filkins of Cambridge, and Tyler (Katherine) Cox of Honolulu; seven brothers and sisters, Virginia Wickliff of West Virginia, Hilda Schimpf of Newark, John Cox of Newark, Judith Allen of West Virginia, Suzie (Leroy) Cox-White of Linnville, Betty Blackford of Youngstown, and Mark (Mary) Cox of Frazeysburg; brother-in-law, Raymond Quick of Zanesville and sister-in-law, Frankie Haynes of Cutler; bonus grandchildren, Bryanna Cox of Zanesville, Alexa Wiard of Hopewell, Tai Loughman of Zanesville, and Sean Cardec of Rhode Island; and 30 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Bonnie Cox, Anna Francis Cox, Everett Cox, Anna Shepard, Patricia Cox, Dave Cox, Mary Gesiorski; sister-in-law, Sandra Quick; grandsons, Joshua Finney, Clinton Baker, and Samuel Brown; and daughter-in-law Dawn Cox.

Friends and family may call Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. until time of service starting at 1:00 P.M. at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with Pastor Tim Alexander officiating. William will be laid to rest at Mt. Sterling Cemetery, Hopewell with full Military Honors accorded to him by the United States Marine Corps in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
