William “Bill” Leonard Langer, 89, of Hawley, MN passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Valley Care and Rehab, Barnesville, MN.
Bill was born in Valley City, ND on June 18, 1936, to Julius and Christine (Zimprich) Langer. He was the youngest of seven children. He grew up in Valley City but spent as much time as possible helping on his older brother’s farm in Alice, ND.
After graduating from St. Catherine Catholic School in Valley City, Bill enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Rapid City, SD. It was here he met Joyce Lundberg and after a night of roller skating they never separated. He and Joyce were married May 12, 1960, and after completing his military service in 1961, they moved to Fridley, MN to start their family. They had two daughters Cindy and Nancy and later moved to Moorhead where they had two more children, Amy and Corey, and soon after made their home in Hawley, MN in 1975.
Bill worked much of his career as an over-the-road trucker; however, family was extremely important to Bill, and the kids took turns going on the road with him.
Bill was a master woodworker and made numerous intricate pieces, many of which he gave away to family and friends. He loved seeing the joy his work brought to others. He had a strong faith and was active with Hawley Lutheran Church. He was a proud grandpa and spent many evenings watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and school programs. He also enjoyed a good game of cards and taught his family to play.
The family would like to thank the Fargo VA Hospital, Valley Care and Rehab, and HIA Hospice for the wonderful care they showed Bill over the years.
Bill is survived by his children, Cynthia “Cindy” (Brian) Hobbs, Nancy Werner, Amy (Ross) Blakeway, and Corey Langer; grandchildren, Justin Hobbs, Nicia Werner, Samantha Blakeway, Kurt Werner, Carter Langer, Peyton Blakeway, Chelsey Blakeway, and Jack Langer; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents, Julius and Christine; and his siblings, Christine Kuklok, Julius Langer Jr., Lawrence Langer, Leo Langer, Gladys Rutherford, and Rose Winters.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the memorial service with Livestream at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN. Final resting place will be at Hawley Cemetery, Hawley, MN.
