William “Bill” James Matson, Sr., age 83, of Stoney Point, PA passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025 with his family by his side at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, Towanda Campus.
Bill was born on the family farm on Stoney Point Road on April 30, 1942. He was the son of the late Clifford J. (d. May 12, 1986) and Ruth Marguerite Junk Matson (d. October 5, 2018). He was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School with the class of 1960.
The family farm was Bill’s life. He was born and raised on the farm and succeeded his father as the owner and operator of the farm with his wife, Barbara J. Vanderpool Matson who he married on May 27, 1967. He also drove school bus for the Wyalusing School District for 48 years. He was proud of the fact that he drove over 400,000 miles during his career.
Bill was a member of the PA Farmers Association and the PA School Bus Association. He took great pleasure with being outdoors, especially hunting. On the farm, his tractors were very important to him. If you knew Bill, you know that he enjoyed talking and socializing with everyone. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children and their spouses, Amy and Tom Myers of Rome, PA, Amanda and Travis Cooley of Orwell Twp., PA, William and Julia Matson, Jr. of Stoney Point, PA; his grandchildren, Jenna Myers of Rome, PA, Adam Myers of Sayre, PA, William Cooley and Paul Cooley both of Orwell Twp., PA and William Matson, III, Rorke Matson and Fletcher Matson all of Stoney Point, PA; his siblings and their spouses, Robert and Louise Matson of Stoney Point, PA, Linda and Bill Stanley of Victor, NY, and Gary and Sue Matson of Stoney Point, PA; his four-legged best friend, Nori; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jared Thomas Myers (d. June 19, 1994).
A Funeral Service for Bill will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 6:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA with Pastor Luke Kinney of the Hope Baptist Church officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 4:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will take place at the Camptown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Bill’s name to H.O.P.S. Ambulance, 6185 Herrickville Rd., Wyalusing, PA 18853.
