William Bishop Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Sep. 1, 2008.
BISHOP, William D., 86, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008. He was born in Batesville Arkansas and came to southwest Virginia as a small child where he grew up and later worked with Stuart Land and Cattle Company on a 15,000 acre estate near Lebanon Virginia owned by former State Senator Harry Stuart, son of the late Governor Henry Stuart. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Beulah Bishop. He was the father of four children, Margaret Bishop, Jerry Bishop, Harold Bishop and Ralph Bishop. He has six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Daniel Bishop; two sisters, Lola Mae Moritz and Sarah Holmes; and other family members. William Bishop became a Christian, saved in an old fashioned brush arbor meeting some 75 years ago. He never wavered, turned back or compromised in his religious beliefs and has left a road map for his entire family. He was a Sunday school teacher responsible for helping other people which inspired others and increased membership. Many nights he would study until 3 a.m. prior to Sunday and was always prepared for his class. He was a loving husband, father and grand father who deeply loved all of his grandchildren. He has left us but will not be forgotten. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 2, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. Services will be held Wednesday, September 3, 1 p.m. at Emmanuel Tabernacle Assembly of God, Walnut Grove Rd. (Rt. 615) Mechanicsville, Va. 23111. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
