Mr. William Lee Bonds, 91, of Peoria, IL, transitioned to his heavenly home at 2:50 am, Saturday, October 19, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.
William was born on July 27, 1933 in Henning, TN to Maggie Lou Jones and Emmett Bonds.
William moved to Peoria, IL in 1949 when he was 16 years old. He had a strong work ethic working hard all his life to provide for his family. He worked as a Boiler Maker at Keystone Steel and Wire. He was also a handyman that always helped others in the community. William met the love of his life, Lee Petty and were married on August 31, 1952. William and Lee's union was blessed with two daughters, Sherry and Sandra. Lee preceded William in death on May 13, 2018 after more than 65 years of marriage.
William loved to travel and was a Chicago Cubs fan. Before his health failed, he was a faithful and active member of New Morning Star M.B. Church where he served as a trustee, hall monitor and member of the Helping Hands Committee.
William leaves to cherish his precious memory two daughters, Sherry McCullough of St. Clair Shores, MI and Sandra (Keith) McDaniel of Peoria, IL; one niece, whom they raised, Erin Petty of Dallas, TX; seven brothers, Willie Bonds and Roy (Emma) Bonds both of Ripley, TN, Bobbie Bonds of Spring Hope, NC, J.C. (Debra) Bonds, Frankie Bonds, Kenneth (Trenice) Bonds and Stevie (Suzette) Bonds all of Ripley, TN; one sister, Carolyn Bonds of Ripley, TN; five grandchildren, Shaniece (Lamont) Dowell of Lemon Grove, CA, Jasmin McDaniel of Peoria, IL, Brian (Ashley) McCullough of Clawson, MI, Blake (Tracie) McCullough of St. Clair Shores, MI and Brianna (Gabriel) Weah of Minneapolis, MN; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who loved him. He is also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mason Campbell, Jr., George Barnes and Emmett Bonds, Jr., and two sisters, Lillie Mae Wright and Anna Ruth Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Mt. Zion M.B. Church with a visitation one-hour prior at 10 am. Rev. Dr. Matthew Mitchell is the Host Pastor, Rev. Calvin McLemore, Associate Pastor of New Morning Star M.B. Church, will officiate and Rev. Joseph Cherry, Pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, will bring forth the eulogy. William will be laid to rest Monday, November 4, 2024 at Parkview Cemetery alongside his wife, Lee.
