Obituary of William K. Bottomley

William "Bill" K. Bottomley

William K. Bottomley, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 29, 2026, while doing something he loved-enjoying a bike ride near his winter home in Palm Springs, California. Born on April 27, 1960, in Joliet, Illinois, Bill was the beloved son of Kenneth and Anita Bottomley. He lived life with energy and curiosity, finding joy in simple moments and the outdoors. He will be remembered for his vibrant spirit and the warmth he brought to those around him.

Bill grew up in Shorewood, Illinois, where he attended Joliet West High School and Joliet Junior College before completing his bachelor studies in Accounting at Northern Illinois University. He later continued his education at Northwestern University, earning a Master of Business Administration, a testament to his commitment to lifelong learning and professional excellence.

Bill's passion for sport and outdoor adventure naturally led him to windsurfing, where he quickly became a skilled and devoted enthusiast. That passion guided him to Hood River, Oregon-a place that would shape both his career and his personal life. There, Bill joined Dakine as a staff accountant and went on to play a pivotal role in the company's evolution from a small, niche windsurfing supplier into a globally recognized, multi-sport brand. After years of dedicated leadership and vision, Bill retired from Dakine as Chief Financial Officer and President.

Hood River also brought Bill the greatest joy of his life-the love of his life, Paula Lorenza. Together, they shared a deep appreciation for adventure, community, and the simple pleasures of living fully. Their warmth, generosity, and zest for life were felt by all who crossed their path, as they welcomed each new experience and friendship with open hearts.

Bill is survived by his life partner, Paula Lorenza; his parents, Ken and Anita Bottomley; brother, Brian (Amy Marker) Bottomley, and niece Elaine (Alex Erchinger) Bottomley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the charity of your choice.

As it was Bill's request, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
