William Oliver Brittain died peacefully on November 21, 2021 at his home in New Orleans.
Bill was a proud son of Tennessee and a dedicated citizen of Louisville, his chosen home town.
Born on August 9th, 1928 in Franklin, TN to the late Mary Emily Beasley Brittain and Leonard Parkes Brittain, he upheld family tradition by attending Battle Ground Academy and then Vanderbilt University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He graduated in 1950 and went to New York, spending two years with JP Morgan on Wall Street before being called to serve in the Air Force during the Korean War. He married Mary Jo 'Tippy' Grone of Webster Groves, MO on September 3rd, 1952, and she accompanied him on his posting to Iceland until he was discharged in 1955. They moved to Louisville, where Bill eventually started his own successful packaging business.
He was always excited about Louisville and was a member of the Pendennis Club, the Wynn-Stay Club, the Louisville Country Club and Harmony Landing Country Club where he served as President. He also served as President of the Rotary Club, remaining a member for 50 years. He was a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Filson Club, the Louisville Dinner Dance Club (President) and the Ringling Museum of Art.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Tippy and his brother L.P. Brittain Jr (Brother Bill) and sister Marie Frances Brittain Taylor.
Survivors include his daughter, Sara Brittain Paradis of New Orleans, grandchildren, William Oliver Paradis, also in New Orleans and Henry Parkes 'Yams' Paradis of Brooklyn, NY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who remember his gentlemanly demeanor, his high expectations and his endless hospitality.
