William “Randy” Randolph Brooks, 95, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at his residence in Staunton.

He was born on May 14, 1929, in Staunton to the late Hugh Worthington, Sr. and Callie Elvin Tinsley Brooks.

William was a dedicated electrician who spent his career working at Dupont. He served in the United States Army where he saw service during the Korean War. He not only served his country but showcased his athletic abilities as well. He played semi pro football for the Army and served as a medic for the Army boxing team.

Outside of his professional and military life he was an avid outdoorsman who had a deep passion for hunting and fishing. He could often be found at North River Campground where he volunteered as campground host and gathered a large “Campground Family”. He generously shared his knowledge of firearms teaching hunter safety courses.

William was an active member of the Elks Lodge #2270 in Waynesboro where he competed and won many billiard and horseshoe tournaments. He was Elk of the Year numerous times and served on many committees. His craftsmanship shone through in his woodworking, where he would often create beautiful gifts for others. Birdwatching was another of his interests, as well as collecting clocks and photography.  He was also a lifetime member of the Staunton Moose Lodge. Randy was known for his generous use of his time and talents in fundraising for many causes. He will most be remembered as a loving husband and a devoted father.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-seven years, Mary Evelyn Reed Brooks; his son, John Randolph Brooks and his wife, Judith Owens; his daughter, Katherine Louise Brooks Martin; and his grandchildren, Candace Martin, Amber Nicole Brooks, and Joshua John Brooks.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Hugh Worthington Brooks, Jr. and Clyde Walton Brooks, and his sisters, Thelma Lorene and Charlotte Louise Brooks.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at St. Paul's Church with Reverend Russell Heinrich officiating.
