William Larry Brooks (Larry), 83, of Davidson, NC (formerly of Franklin & Highlands, NC) passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Paula by his side on Saturday, March 29th.
Larry devoted his life to education and served as the Principal of Highlands School for many years. His love of teaching lasted through much of his retirement as he continued to mentor and support teachers, principals, and schools across North Carolina. He earned a master’s degree in education from Western Carolina University where he excelled as an athlete. He remained active throughout his life enjoying golf and gardening.
The son of the late Samuel L. & Alberta Early Brooks of Franklin, he is predeceased by his son Thomas Rowland. Larry is survived by his wife Paula Farthing Brooks, sons Mark Bowman (John), and William Ross, stepdaughter Melissa Chambers (Andrew) and stepson Gregory Worley (Christina) and his sister Ruth Sessions, Grandson John and step grandchildren Caroline, Nathan, Matthew, Gregory, and Gantt.
We honor Larry because of his life of service to others and his spirit of encouraging the gifts that make each of us special, the eternal mystery and extraordinary beauty of the human heart.
A visitation will be held on Sunday April 27, 2025 at 1:30PM at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. A Celebration will follow the visitation at 2:30PM. The family invites those would like to come to a reception at Andrew and Melissa Chambers residence, 12731 Westmoreland Road, Huntersville, NC.
