William K. (Bill) Byrum, 88, passed away October 2, 2021, at the Hoosier Village Health Center, in Indianapolis. Bill was born on August 1, 1933, in Indianapolis to Marion H. and Marjorie (Stoddard) Byrum. Bill enjoyed 65 years of marriage to his Southport High School sweetheart, Mary Joan (Jody) (Wheeler) Byrum. She preceded him in death on February 23, 2020. Bill was a graduate of Butler University (BA, 1955) and Indiana University (JD, 1958). Following law school, Bill served as Judge Advocate General in the Air Force, in Manchester, New Hampshire. After military service, his legal career began as deputy trial prosecutor in Marion County. He also served on the Indianapolis City-County Council and Mass Transportation Authority of Greater Indianapolis during the tenure of then Mayor Richard G. Lugar. He practiced trial law with Byrum, Gagnon & Diehl during the majority of his legal career and in final years of practice, joined Stark Doninger & Smith as of counsel.

Bill was an avid golfer and past president of the Country Club of Indianapolis. He was a former member of Southport Presbyterian Church in Southport, Indiana, and North Lake Presbyterian Church, in Lady Lake, Florida. Bill and Jody enjoyed traveling, playing golf, entertaining friends and spending time with family. They enjoyed time with family and friends at their lake home on Sweetwater Lake. Following retirement, Bill and Jody relocated to The Villages, Florida. In recent years, they returned to Indiana to live at Hoosier Village Retirement Community. Everywhere they lived, they gathered new friends and cherished long-time friendships.

Survivors include his three daughters, Karen Jones (Brian) of Indianapolis, Beth Sease (Dan) of Zionsville, and Cheryl Jackson (Mark) of Noblesville; grandchildren, Nick Jackson (Kara), Drew Sease (Jen), Eric Jones (Lauren), Katie Mahaffa (Josh), Jeff Sease (Chloe), Chelsea Simmons (Chris) and Hannah Sease; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Simmons, Wyc Jones and Everett Mahaffa; brother, Joseph Byrum (Ann) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two sisters, Janice Howell of Carmel and Sandra Houston of The Villages, Florida. Brother, Jack M. Byrum (Erma) of Franklin, Indiana, preceded him in death in 2014.
