William Caldwell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2025.
, FL - Indiantown William Graham Caldwell, 96, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025 accompanied by loved ones in Indiantown, FL. Born in Canastota, NY, Bill was the son of James and Alferda Gerber Caldwell and was the eldest of six children.

After graduating from Canastota High School in 1946, he joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed in California where he was an aircraft hydraulics specialist and a starter on the Army baseball team. After completing his service, Bill studied engineering in Plattsburg NY, graduating college in 1951. Married and with a young family, Bill moved to Burlington, VT and eventually Amherst, NH working for Woodmaster Garages as a pre-fab builder. He was active in the community and specifically the Milford Rotary Club for many years, serving in volunteer roles and as President from 1981-1982. He truly enjoyed serving at fundraisers like the Pancake Breakfast and Christmas Tree Sales. He was a long time member of the Amherst Country Club and held a family membership at Hampshire Hills Racquet Club for decades.

In 1978 Bill founded WG Caldwell Co. Inc. and moved his business to New Boston, where he resided for over 20 years. An involved community member, he served on the Board of Selectmen and other volunteer boards in the community.

Bill presided over a true family business and was dedicated to both, working alongside his late wife Connie, who was the bookkeeper, office manager and what would be known today as HR manager in their home office on 52 High Street (today's New Boston Dental). Bill's "Caldwell Barns" still stand all over New England, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard and eastern New York. Several of the homes he built are still housing families in New Boston today. His namesake remains on the Caldwell Barn he donated to the Hillsborough County Youth Foundation at the New Boston fairgrounds.

In 1998, Bill retired to a golf community in Indiantown, FL, where, as an avid golfer, he organized tournaments, scrambles and was President of the Indianwood Golf Club. He was President of the Co-Op of Shareholders and was active on many committees and boards throughout the Club. Many of his local friends referred to him fondly as "the mayor"! Never one to be idle, Bill also volunteered his building expertise to Habitat for Humanity as well as spending many an hour in his woodshop crafting furniture and other useful items that he donated to friends and family.

A gentle spirit with a stubborn streak, Bill would accomplish anything he put his mind to. He enjoyed golf & tennis, boating & fishing, card games & puzzles, building design/construction and his cigars & bourbon! He would help those in need quietly and without fanfare, expecting nothing and without credit. A loving father and husband, Bill raised and is survived by five daughters: Sally Kwikiwski, Deborah Caldwell, Cheryl Weberline, Karen Caldwell, Gretchen Anderson and a stepson Michael Lynch. He is also survived by his grandchildren Craig Smith, Brian Smith, AJ Neeld, Casey Anderson, Lou LeRoux, Hayley Anderson, Kevin Anderson, Ben Lynch and Kimberly Lynch LaCroix, his brother Ray Caldwell, sister Teddi Caldwell and many great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM at the New Boston Baptist Church at 184 Mont Vernon Road, New Boston, NH on Saturday, November 29, 2025 with fellowship and refreshments to follow. Interment will be at the New Boston Cemetery for immediate family only.

Thinking of the entire Caldwell family at this time. I remember as a kid looking at the ads for horse barns and thinking I would love a Caldwell built barn when I grew up : ) What a long and wonderful life surrounded by all those women in his life! RIP Mr. caldwell
