Mr. William E. Canane, a retired Andover Police Officer, passed away at the Lawrence General Hospital on Monday, September 2, 2024. He was 72 years old.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on July 13, 1952, William was the beloved son of the late James E. and Isabelle (Skinner) Canane. William was a lifelong resident of Andover and was a graduate of AnnaMaria College, where he earned his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. He was employed by the Andover Fire Department, for several years, before becoming an Andover Police Officer and serving more than 30 years on the departments.
In his spare time, William enjoyed watching open wheel and Nascar racing. He was a very compassionate and loving person, always willing to help anyone in need of anything. He loved to travel, especially to Europe and all around the United States. William will be dearly missed by all who know him.
He is survived by his longtime partner; Susan D. Libby of Andover and many friends. He was the brother of the late James E. Canane.
A Graveside service will be held in the Spring Grove Cemetery, 5 Spring Grove Road, Andover on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather at the cemetery for William's graveside service. Donations in William's memory may be made to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. I was Bill's neighbor an friend 2 house up from his ever since we were pre school kids. So many memories of the fun times we had.

Billy was our neighbor for almost 4 decades and we grew to love him as our kid brother. He was always there if we needed him and though we didn´t say much to each other, I think he loved us back. Those driveway talks were so rich and satisfying. We will never forget him.
