William Cater Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peeples Family Funeral Homes on Sep. 24, 2025.
William S. "Bill" Cater, 53, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Community Hospice - Warner Center.

Born on November 28, 1971, in Douglas, Georgia, Bill spent most of his life in the Jacksonville area after moving from Mount Juliett, Tennessee. He was a member of the Church of Eleven22 and found joy in surfing, skateboarding, riding motorcycles, and singing-he had a remarkable voice that brought joy to those around him.

Bill joined the Jacksonville Sheriffs office in 2003, always wanting to work in traffic. In 2017, he fulfilled that dream by joining JSO Motor Unit, merging his passion for traffic safety and motorcycles. He was named motorman of the year in 2023 . His dedication to public service and his vibrant personality left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Shelly Cater; his parents, Hugh Shaw Cater and Patricia Bob Cater; two daughters, Madi Chick (Lee) and Kynley Cater; his brother, Rob S. Cater (Heather); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Church of Eleven22, 14286 Beach Blvd #2, with Pastor Trey Brunson officiating. Burial with Police Honors will follow at Beaches Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the church, prior to the service.

Arrangements are under the care of Peeples Family Funeral Home, who is honored to serve the Cater Family.
