William Cathers Obituary
William P. Cathers, age 90, of Etna died on March 5, 2025. Born January 4, 1935 in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late William P. Cathers Sr. and Florence K. Cathers (Kinsey).He was married to the love of his life Lois Jean Cathers (Durst) in June 1957. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career with PPG Industries at the Ford City Plant and then transferred to the Glass Research Center in Harmarville. He was the author of 16 US patents for PPG during his 37 1/2 year career with the company. He worked and managed projects relating to glass surfacing, automatic packing, reflective coatings on glass, and automotive and aircraft windshields. He received many awards for outstanding Engineering Achievements.
He is survived by wife Lois and their and three children, Keith William Cathers, Karen J. Rice (Bob), and Kimberly Sue Cathers.
He was devoted to his church, Emmanuel Lutheran in Etna, PA and to his family. He served on church council for 35 years and was responsible for design and construction of the church parking lot. He and Lois loved to travel and they traveled in their motor home for 48 years. They have been in all 50 states + 18 countries. He felt that God had truly blessed him and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received on Friday March 7th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday the 8th at 11AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church Etna. Everyone please meet at Church.
