William Chapman Obituary

William Roy "Bud" Chapman, 71, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home in the company of his family, on Friday, July 11, 2025. Born on September 5, 1953, in Inglewood, California, son of the late Roy and Berniece Roberts Chapman. He graduated from Inglewood High School and Cal State Northridge, and earned his Juris Doctorate from UWLA.
He worked as a trial lawyer for Carpenter & Rothans and Grassini & Wrinkle prior to establishing his own practice, Krupnick & Chapman, from which he retired in 2023. While he did not miss working, he did miss "the fight." He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Germaine, and his children, son Spencer (Brittany) of Kansas City, MO and daughter Grace of New York, NY. He was predeceased by his older siblings, Patricia and Robert. He and Germaine raised their family in Northridge, and were members of Our Lady of Lourdes parish for 25 years, where he was best known as "the voice of the OLL festival." They retired to Mount Pleasant, a suburb of Charleston, in 2023, quickly developed a new community, and were the happiest they had ever been.
Bud was a lifelong LA sports fan, and attended the 2024 World Series in NYC to see his beloved Dodgers compete to become World Champions. The son of Canadian parents, he was also a diehard ice hockey fan, and saw the Kings play in several east coast arenas. Some of his best memories from growing up in LA were sneaking into the Forum with his pals to revel in a number of memorable Lakers moments. His sporting opinions were published nearly 100 times in the LA Times Sports section, and he maintained his own sports blog, Budman's Rants. He was an avid reader, with a particular love of American history and a good detective novel, did not miss completing his daily crossword puzzle, and thoroughly enjoyed music. In retirement, he co-hosted a podcast, "I Object", golfed 3 times per week with his standing group of friends, and traveled extensively with Germaine.
Please consider a donation in his memory to Toys for Tots, an organization Bud and Germaine have been devoted to for over 50 years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Benedict Catholic Church, 950 Darrell Creek Trail, in Mount Pleasant, SC on August 1, 2025 at 11:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

I am saddened beyond words and continue thinking of all of you every single day and night. I hope you find comfort in the support you are getting from so many who loved Bud and who, like me, will miss him dearly.

For almost 30 years, our two families shared holidays meals together in our homes across the street - Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas. And Bud, ever the eloquent orator, would raise a glass of red wine and propose a toast, always ending with his greatest blessing - his family and dear friends. So here´s to you, Bud, to family and friends.
