July 5, 1932 - February 20, 2026
William Lloyd Chesley, 93, of Salt Lake City, Utah, peacefully stepped through the veil and returned home after a life filled with love, faith, and service.
He was born on July 5, 1932 to Lono Chesley and Effie Susan Clark, in Gridley Butte California. William-known to many as Bill-was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, teacher, and friend.
While attending BYU, and singing in the choir, he met the love of his life, Myrl Jeanne Shipley, and they were married on February 7th 1955, in the Logan, Utah Temple. They shared 51 cherished years before she passed nearly 21 years ago; surely heaven rejoiced at the beauty of their reunion. They shared a life of deep devotion and purpose in their years together and now have met again in a joyful reunion along with two of their children and many other loved ones.
Bill was the proud father of six children: Mike (Debbie), Mark (Jennifer), Steve (Joanna), Karen (Albert) and Kristin and Eric who stepped through the veil prior to Bill. His posterity includes 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild-a legacy built on love, faith, and example.
A dedicated educator, William taught school for several years, touching countless young lives with his patience and wisdom. His service extended far beyond the classroom, as he faithfully held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One calling he enjoyed was serving as the executive secretary to multiple Bishoprics and Stake Presidencies for many years.
Bill enjoyed traveling throughout his life and went on many adventures. He worked for Murdock Travel which made traveling a passion. Bill loved photography, music and singing, gardening and traveling with his sweetheart. Together with his beloved companion, Jeanne, they served three full-time missions, devoting their time to sharing their faith and testimony while serving in the Family and Church History Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bill's beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes lit up every room he entered. He will be remembered for his warmth, his kindness, and the many stories he shared with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His life was a testament to love, service, and faith. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 27th at the Hunter 16th Ward LDS Church, 2811 S 6400 W, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a small family service at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place immediately following at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.
