Bill Chilson, Passed away on November 7th, 2022 at the age of 67, at his winter home in Arizona. Bill was born on November 11, 1954, he grew up in Sunset, Utah, graduating from Clearfield High. It was in Layton at the Tic Toc drive inn where Julie worked, that he met, fell in love, and married his best friend, Julie (Scoffield) Chilson. They have been married 47 years.
Bill started working with the UP railroad with his father, then worked for IML Freight driving trucks. Bill decided he wanted something different and wanted to serve his community and serve he did. Bill started his law enforcement career attending the reserve academy with Kaysville PD. Was then hired by Layton City Police Department and then by Clinton City Police Dept. Bill served a total of 39 years in law enforcement, 37 of those years dedicated to the residents and community of Clinton. He served 29 years as the Police Chief retiring in March of 2021.
Bill was one of a kind and the life of the party. His irreverent sense of humor, vivid imagination and quick wit always kept us on our toes, if he saw you weren’t laughing ~ Watch out, he was about to embarrass you!
Bill loved sports, from coaching his kids and grandkids in soccer, baseball, and football., Seeing them succeed through collegiate level and playing alongside them in recreation leagues. Playing his final softball game just last month. His new found love of Pickleball, with his forever partner, his wife, Julie, was an absolute joy. Bill had a love of music, specifically 70’s music and would rock out to “Don’t Stop Believin’,” while playing the air piano. Bill, along with Julie and father-in-law, Ladd, built the most beautiful cabin in Island Park, Idaho, and it quickly became a favorite for family adventures. He shared many a day fishing, snowmobiling, riding the ATV, then relaxing on the front porch drinking coffee, watching the satellites in the night sky next to a fire. He especially loved the porch when it rained. Boating with his friends and family created the absolute best and most treasured memories of him, not likely ever to be forgotten. Bill’s friends and family were of utmost importance and if you were lucky enough to be his friend, you had a friend for life.
Bill is survived by his best friend and love of his life, Julie, son, (DJ) Dayton (Ronda) Chilson, daughter Erin (Dan) Behm, four grandkids, Hunter Behm, Trapper Behm, Addison Chilson and Morgan Chilson, whom he absolutely loved and adored. Bill is preceded in death, by his father, William Elwood Chilson, Mother Juanita, sisters Connie Thorpe and Sharon Moore.
Bill gave his family specific instructions on what NOT to do when he passed away, (no seriously we were threatened with being haunted forever). In keeping with his wishes, please join us in Celebration of his life. Although Bill would prefer everyone be in their birthday suits, the event center denied the request, so causal wear it is. Hawaiian shirts; comfy attire encouraged. Please come with an appetite and a story to tell of a memory or great time you have had with Bill.
Come celebrate with us November 20, 2022, beginning with a salute entry at 12:00 P.M. followed by a tribute, socializing and storytelling. Join us at The Country Weddings and Event Center, 3051 South 5100 West, Hooper, UT, 84315. If you are unable to party with us, we will miss you and Bill may haunt you forever, but we understand. In Lieu of flowers, have a beverage on the porch in the rain…

Bill was a great man. I knew him from his role as an officer in Clinton and he was always kind to our family. Then when I was in high school I used to hang out with DJ and his friends a bit and I got to know Bill a little better. You could tell he loved being a dad and that his kids were his world. I would often get pulled over for speeding in Clinton and Bill would give me a joke, a light lecture, and a warning. Occasionally I even got a ticket from him too because he was set on teaching me a lesson and always doing the right thing. He had this way of making me laugh as he was writing me a ticket. Then as a teen he also ratted my bad driving skills out to my parents so it was double lectures one from Bill and one from my parents. Lol. In my adult life I see his why's in his decisions. Theres a saying...."it takes a village to raise a child." As a parent I truly believe that this is true and I'm lucky that Bill was a part of my village growing up. He guarded and protected our city and he treated everyone in it like a member of his family. Thank Bill for all you done for me. DJ I'm so sorry for your loss and for your family's loss.

Dear Julie and family, I was so sad to see Bill's obituary and that his passing was so recent. My name is Terri (Hawkins) Bengtson. I went to part of my high school years with Bill. We dated for a while and then I moved to Japan. He, our friend, Scott and I hung out at Legends and went to several concerts together. They taught me to ski on my 16th birthday. We called him "Wild Bill" back then because he was so funny and would do flips on the ski slopes. He taught me to drive a stick shift in his Chevy Nova. Julie, I hope you don't mind me sharing these memories. Some people we meet as we grow up stick in our hearts and minds and Bill was one of those. I live in Prescott, Arizona and would love to here from you. I understand that you had a place in Arizona. I think Prescott is the pickleball capital! With fond memories, Terri Bengtson

I believe that God puts people in our lives for a reason and I've been blessed to call Bill my friend for over 55 years. Yes, he made me smile and laugh and often when I needed it the most. He was sincere and trustworthy and I admired his character. My father liked Bill a great deal and enjoyed being his baseball coach during a few summers. Bill was professional and compassionate. He helped me and my family with legal matters (for decades) with a family member.
I will continue to give God praise daily for all the people in my life and that will include Bill until we meet again in heaven. Prayers and love to Julie and her family for comfort and strength in all the seasons and ways of missing Bill.

I remember working with Bill at the Fun Spot of Northern Utah for several summers. We often opined that cops are merely social workers doing a good job at solving problems. I will miss you Bill, God bless your family and God Bless the Blue.

Julie and family, are deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. We loved Bill and always enjoyed playing softball, soccer, and knowing we could call him anytime for legal stuff too. It was also very nice he would turn his head every time he saw me speeding which was a lot. He was a kind man and will be missed by many. We would be to his celebration but we are out of town.

We were honored to know Bill as a friend and a football coach for our son's. My most memorable moment was while he was coaching our oldest sons football game. Our son occasionally had "dropsy" when he was thrown the ball to. However, this one day he caught the ball and Bill ran up and down the field yelling to me, "Mom, he caught the ball and made a touchdown!" We laughed about that for years! We will miss his smile and kind heart!
