William Comly Obituary

William D Comly, Sr

January 31, 1940 - December 5, 2023

Unionville, Pennsylvania - William D. Comly, Sr. 83, of Unionville, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Geisinger Hospital in Jersey Shore. Born on January 31, 1940, in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Reuben M. and Susanne (Pepperday) Comly. On June 8, 2002, he married Emilie D. Smith. Emilie passed away on August 8, 2023.

William was a 1957 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He attended Penn State University for a short time before entering the US Airforce on January 23, 1959. He earned the rank of A1C and received the Good Conduct Medal-SO G-2 before being honorably discharged on November 15, 1962.

After his military service, William went to work in his father's auto repair shop. He later purchased the shop and was the owner of Comly Motor Service in Unionville for over 50 years before retiring. Repairing cars and trucks was more than a job to him, he loved making them run like new.

William was a member of the State College Assembly of God Church. He was very active in his church, attending services regularly and participated in bible studies. In his younger years, he played on many Centre County league slow pitch and fast pitch baseball teams. He spent a lot of Sunday afternoons teaching his grandchildren the art of pitching a softball.

He was a huge Pittsburgh Pirates fan and enjoyed watching all Penn State sports, especially football. William was a people person. He never met a stranger. He was proud of his family, especially the grandchildren.

William is survived by his son, William D. Comly, Jr and his wife, Velvet, of Bellefonte; his daughter, Brenda A. Frazer of Butler; one stepson, Kenneth M. Maney and one stepdaughter, Sydney Bell and her husband, James, of DuBois; two brothers: Robert Comly and his wife, Marise, of State College and Donald Comly and his wife, Judy, of Arkansas.

He is also survived by six grandchildren: Brook Morgan and her husband, Michael, of Butler; Brittany Frazer and her fiancé, Jacob, of Butler; Heather Frazer and her fiancé, Clint, of Butler; Braedon Comly of Bellefonte; Tucker Comly of Bellefonte; Mitchell Colpetzer and his fiancé, Denika, of Bellefonte, and three great grandchildren: Noelle, Myla, and Liam.

Along with his parents and wife, William was preceded in death by one brother, James Comly and one grandson, Toby Colpetzer.

Public visitation will be on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 12:30 – 1:30pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Milesburg. Funeral service will follow at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Waldecker officiating. Graveside service with full military honors will be at Oakridge Cemetery in Union Twp.

Bill was one of the really good guys. He was a long time friend to me and my son Matthew. Matt used to spend summers in Unionville and one of his favorite things was spending time with Bill in the garage. Bill was such a positive influence in both of our lives. He always made us laugh. He will be missed but remain in our hearts forever.

My sincere sympathy to the family of "Bill". I grew up in Unionville and knew Bill well. No matter where you ran into Bill he always spoke or at least had a smile & wave to you. He will be missed and remembered for his bicycle jaunts to the post office or to the garage. RIP and enjoy Heaven!
