Dr. William "Bill" Costner

Dr. William "Bill" Marshall Costner, 89, of Denver, formerly of Bessemer City, passed away April 15, 2024, at his home.
He was born July 29, 1934, Gaston County, son of the late Everette James Costner and Lillian Davis Costner.
He was a US Army veteran who proudly served his country.
Dr. Costner was an undergraduate at East Carolina University and a graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He owned a private Optometry Practice in Bessemer City for 60 years where he enjoyed serving many families and had made countless friends throughout his beloved career.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Friday, April 19, 2024, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Forrest Hennessee.
The family will receive friends' noon – 1:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Army.
Dr. Costner is survived by his loving children, William Marshall Costner Jr. (Pattie), Dr. James Mitchell Costner, Mandy Costner Edwards (Chris); grandchildren, Marissa Garst (James), Lauren Lowden (Troy), Christina Costner, Alyssa Costner, Kaelyn Martin (Darren), Morgan Edwards; great-grandchildren, Wells Garst, Renley Lowden; brother, David Costner (Joyce).
In addition to his parents, Dr. Costner was preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy Horne Costner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Lincoln County 900 Dontia Drive Lincolnton, North Carolina 28092.
