William C. Cottman, affectionately known as Bill, passed away on December 26, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on June 15, 1953, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who made a lasting impact on the lives of all who knew him.
Bill was a man of great depth and character. He possessed a remarkable sense of humor that could light up any room, warming the hearts of family and friends alike. With a career spanning more than 50 years in the automotive field, he served in many roles—including mechanic, service manager, and editor of automotive manuals—in his last decade of his career he dedicated himself to teaching, inspiring students through his deep knowledge and lifelong passion for the trade. Bill took immense pride in his work and was well respected by peers and students alike.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bill enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid boating and fishing enthusiast, often spending his free time on the water, enjoying the tranquility and beauty of nature. Bill was also a devoted Eagles fan, cheering passionately for his team during every game. He had a love for cooking, often experimenting in the kitchen and sharing his culinary creations with his loved ones. His keen eye for photography allowed him to capture the precious moments of life, preserving memories that will be cherished by those he leaves behind. For more than fifty years, he shared countless hands, laughs, and memories with the same four poker friends, a bond that remained strong throughout his life.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret Mary (née Cerniglia) Cottman, a constant and loving presence through life’s joys and challenges. He is also survived by his two sons, Adam Cottman and his wife Lindsay, and Brian Cottman, along with his cherished grandson, Julian Cottman. Bill's legacy will live on through them, as they carry forward his values of kindness, humor, and determination.
He is also remembered fondly by his siblings Barbara Capuzzi, Mary Wiegand (Bill), Patricia Magliano (Ray), and Joanne Cottman and a caring family of in-laws, including Joanne Underwood, Jack Cerniglia, Maria Beck (Jack), Anthony Cerniglia, and Clare Iannone (Tony). Bill was proud of his many nieces and nephews, who will undoubtedly hold onto the memories and lessons he shared with them.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Edna (Nee Thorson) Cottman, and his sister Eleanor Lauria. These family members, no doubt, welcomed him with open arms.
