William Wade Craig (Bill) of Claysville passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital after a brief illness. He was born February 4, 1943, in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of William Edwin Craig and Annabelle Maude Curtis Craig.
Bill grew up in Claysville and was a 1962 graduate of McGuffey High School. On February 28, 1964, he married the love of his life, Glenda Lee McPherson Craig, who survives. They were married for over sixty years, and he remained by her side through her sickness as a loving husband and fierce advocate for her care.
Bill was in the United States Army Reserve and was drafted in 1968 for active duty in the Vietnam War, where he served under the 630th Transportation Unit. Commendations during his time included Sharpshooter (M16), Marksman (M14), and Heavy Machine Operator.
Bill was skilled as a welder, machinist, and mould maker. He was an active member of the Glass Workers Union. He worked for General Motors in Detroit, Michigan, briefly before coming back to the area to work for McGraw Edison for over 20 years. In 2004, he retired from Ross Mould. After retirement, he worked part-time for Curtis Pharmacy, delivering medication.
Bill enjoyed fishing all his life, from fishing at Timber Lake in his youth, trout fishing at Dutch Fork, and other lakes in West Virginia. One of his wishes was to fish for Walleye in Canada. He made two trips to Quebec after retirement with his son, Bill, trolling the waters of Lake Kipiwa.
Bill was active in the Claysville community, where he was the President of Claysville Youth Football and a youth baseball coach for over a decade. He was a regular at McGuffey Community Park, dragging the fields and teaching kids about the game. One of his favorite activities was taking the kids to Kim's Korner during the summers. Years later, he relived those memories teaching his grandson, Ryan, the game of baseball and offering opinions and advice on his son's coaching.
Like most parents, he wanted to see his children have better opportunities in life. Two of his proudest moments were seeing his son and daughter graduate from college, the firsts in the Craig family to do so.
Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Jo Craig Noble, of Washington. Surviving are his wife, Glenda Lee McPherson Craig; son, William Kevin (Trisha Ann Varish) Craig of South Fayette Township; daughter, Rhonda Lee Craig (Jarrod) McAdoo of Greensburg; and grandsons, Ryan McPherson Craig of South Fayette Township, Aiden James McAdoo of Greensburg, and Logan William McAdoo of Greensburg.
