William Crawford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mortimer Funeral Home - Greenville on Feb. 16, 2026.
William Ashley Crawford passed away peacefully, February 13, 2026, with his daughter by his side. He had been in the hospital since the ice storm. He was born April 13, 1938 to his parents, William and Minnie Crawford in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
William was proud of his service to The United States of America, first, US Navy and then in the US Army. He stated that it was a great honor to serve his Country. In the Navy, he was on the USS Hector and USS Navasota. While in the Army, he was stationed at Fort Myer. He loved to talk about how he was a truck driver that delivered laundry daily to the White House, while President Eisenhower was in office. In his last assignment he was station at Augsburg Germany, during the cold war. To says he loved his service days does not seem enough, but he loved tell stories to anyone who would listen about those days. William worked for 50 plus years in gins, with the last being Midnight Gin. He loved to work on anything and try to repair it back to a working condition. In his spare time, he would sit outside and watched God's creations. William was married to his wife, Jessie, before her passing several years ago.
William Crawford leaves behind his loving daughter, Ashley Crawford of Silver City and many friends who loved..
Per his wishes, his remains will be buried at sea at a later date.
