William Lorne Cronin
November 20, 1952 – September 28, 2025
William Lorne Cronin, 72, of Houghton Lake, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
William was born on November 20, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, to Albert and Roberta (Hill) Cronin. He grew up in Detroit and West Frankfort, Illinois, where he graduated from high school. William served the City of Detroit as a police officer until he was injured on the job.
He enjoyed boating on Higgins Lake and Houghton Lake and was passionate about buying, selling, and trading cars. He owned and operated the Checkered Flag car lot in Houghton Lake for many years. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving Mr. Cronin is his long time partner, Jill Huber of Houghton Lake; his son, David Cronin of West Frankfort, Illinois; two daughters, Nichole (Cory) King of Prudenville, and Cortney (Mark) Nixon of West Branch; grandchildren Darren Cronin, Shelby (Jarred) Sample, Tyler (Bella) Curns, Kaedyn Curns, Reagan Nixon, and Rhett Nixon; six great-grandchildren; Nana Ann Cronin; his brother, Robert Cronin; his sister, Patricia Summers, and several nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Roberta Cronin and his twin brothers, Donald and Ronald Cronin.
A Celebration of Life service for William Lorne Cronin will be held at Lakeside Suites Resort on November 29, 2025, from 1-4pm.
Memorial contributions in William's memory may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project or Veterans Suicide Support and Resources, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
