William Grant Curtis, 86, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed into eternity and was welcomed into heaven by His loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 3, 2023. Bill was born in Watseka, Illinois on February 3, 1937 to Jesse Curtis and Ghita (Goad) Curtis. He proudly served in the Army for two years (1958-60), after which he met and married the love of his life, Margaret Ann (Abbott) Curtis, on September 24, 1961. Together they adopted a little boy in November 1966, who they named Todd Anthony. Bill was also blessed with four wonderful grandchildren: Katie (Garrett) Fell, Kyrsten Curtis, Kristina (Jake) Lozano, and Jonathan (Kayla) Curtis. He was a loving husband, father, and papa who always had a quick wit and pun to share even in his final years as he struggled with Parkinson’s disease.
In his earlier years Bill worked at Penn Railroad (1955) and Benton Review Publishing Company (1955-58). After his discharge from the Army in 1960, he returned to Benton Review and then worked for Sears. In 1969 he began working for Eli Lilly, where he worked until he retired 24 years later in 1993. In December 1995, he and Margaret moved to Denver, Colorado to be close to their son and his family. Bill worked several part time jobs in the Denver area before returning to Indianapolis in 2001. His favorite hobby was photography.
At the age of 25 Bill trusted in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and served Christ as a Sunday School teacher at Oxford Baptist; bus captain and deacon at Baptist Temple; and Sunday School Superintendent and deacon at Burge Terrace Baptist Church. Bill faithfully read God’s Word, prayed, and shared the good news of the gospel with others. His desire was for his life to bring glory to God.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Glen (Pat) Curtis.
The family will have a private burial. A memorial service will be held on September 23, 2023, at 11 am at Burge Terrace Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Burge Terrace Baptist Church where Bill was a member since 1980.
