William Dane Obituary

Judge William H. (Bill) Dane, Jr. passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025 in Indian
River Shores, Florida. He was born August 28, 1944 in Rockford, Illinois to William H. Dane, Sr. and Frances Shugart Dane.

Bill spent his early years in Beloit, Wisconsin, later moving with his family to Coral Gables and eventually Orlando, Florida. He graduated from Florida State
University in 1968.

After graduation Bill proudly served his country in the United States Nav
attending Naval Flight School in Pensacola, Florida.

Following a career in sales, he returned to Florida State University to pursue a
legal career, earning his Juris Doctor Degree. He went on to serve as an Orange County Florida Prosecutor before becoming a respected Mediator.

In 2003 Bill was appointed to the Bench in Jacksonville, Florida by then Governor
Jeb Bush. He served as a Workers Compensation Judge until his retirement in
2009.

Bill moved to Indian River Shores Florida in 2020, where he continued his
dedication to public service. He was elected to the Indian River Shores Town
Council in 2024.

He is survived by sons Jason Dane, Merritt Island, Florida, Joshua Dane (Jennifer),
Maitland, Florida, his beloved Grandchildren Will and Nora Dane, his sister, Debby
Dane Browne (Rick), his brother Douglas Dane (Mary), his partner, Karen Lloyd,
and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents and his brother Kris Dane.
