Ramon E. Meyer died on February 18, 2026, in Greenville, SC. He was born in Cincinnati, OH, to Charles & Kathryn Meyer, on October 3, 1933. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Burkett Meyer: two children, Allison Rogers (Todd), of Greenville, SC, and Darren Meyer (Kate), of Tryon, NC; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ralph Meyer of Easton, MD, and John Meyer, of Winchester, KY; 2 nieces; and a nephew.

He earned a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Louisville, a master's in music history from the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, and a PhD in music theory from Florida State University. From 1956-1971, he was a member of the music faculty at Florida State University, teaching percussion, conducting, and serving as one of the choral and opera conductors. His career included performing as an orchestral percussionist with the Louisville Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, and several regional and festival ensembles. He wrote numerous articles for professional journals and published two pedagogical books for percussion instruments as well as several compositions.

He was a professor of music at Indiana State University from 1971 until his retirement in 1996. He taught choral conducting and choral literature, conducted the university chamber choir, and was an administrator in the School of Music. Meyer was Music Director and Conductor of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra from 1978 until 1995. He served as Music Director at Memorial United Methodist Church in Terre Haute, IN, for 24 years. In retirement, he founded and conducted the Farrington Chorale, a community chamber choir, from 2004-2011. He was awarded the honor of National Arts Associate by Sigma Alpha Iota and received the Arts Illiana Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, for his vital contribution to the musical arts in Terre Haute, IN, for 39 years.

He was formerly a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, in Terre Haute, IN, serving as a member of the vestry and junior and senior warden. After moving to Greenville, SC, he became a member of St. James Episcopal Church.

Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, or to the music program at St. James Episcopal Church.
