William Gerald Day Sr.

William Gerald Day, Sr., age 86 of Somerville, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Gerald was born on August 5, 1939, in Morgan County to Leldon Day and Ruth Mae Murphy Day, who instilled in him the values of hard work, loyalty, and devotion to family that he carried throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Shirley Day, and his cherished daughter, Dee Dee McCutcheon. Though he deeply felt their absence, he continued to honor their memory through the love and strength he poured into his family each day.

A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 11:00AM at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. No Visitation is planned.

Gerald was self-employed for many years, demonstrating determination, resilience, and pride in providing for those he loved. Outside of work, he found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a devoted fan of Alabama football and basketball, rarely missing a game and cheering passionately for his team. He also loved fishing, finding peace and contentment by the water. More than anything, Gerald treasured time spent with his family. He was known for his playful spirit and unforgettable practical jokes, always keeping those around him smiling and laughing.
He is survived by his son, William Gerald Day, Jr.,(Christi), was a proud grandfather to Chandler Day (Aidan), Sydney Day, Wesley McCutcheon (Rebecca), and Wade McCutcheon. His pride and joy were his great-grandchildren: Hollyann Day, Jackson McCutcheon, Jacob McCutcheon, and Jhett McCutcheon. Each of them brought immeasurable happiness to his life.

Gerald is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Josie Day, Nancy Looney, Mary Nell Day and Judy Smith. He was a wonderful uncle to a host of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his humor and warmth. He leaves behind a special friend, Mickey Entrekin, whose friendship meant so much to him.

The family would like to express their heartfelt love and gratitude to Sandra Raper for the time, care, and compassion she so generously showed to Gerald.

William Gerald Day, Sr. will be remembered for his deep love of family, his quick wit, his steadfast loyalty, and the joy he brought into the lives of all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the laughter, stories, and strong family bonds he leaves behind.
