William Deas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 6, 2026.
William Scott Deas, 64, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026. Scott was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia. Scott was a bigger-than-life presence-he never knew a stranger, and his happy-go-lucky spirit brought joy to everyone he met. His infectious laughter and fun-loving nature lit up every room.

Scott was the beloved son of the late Jack and Margaret Deas. He is survived by his devoted wife, Melissa "Missie" Deas; his loving daughters, Hannah Deas and Raegen Chapman and her husband, Jacob; his loving stepchildren, Cole Bourn, whom he raised from the age of seven, Conor Bourn, and Caitlin Bourn and his grandson, Nathan Bourn.

He is also survived by his brother, Andy Deas and his wife Stephanie; his sister, Leslie Hanson and her husband, Eric; as well as many dedicated nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Page and Lynn Deas.

Scott was an avid offshore fisherman most of his life. He especially loved his yearly trips to the Bahamas, with his wife, Missie, family, and close friends. Scott was a giving and generous man, offering a place to stay to those who could get to the Bahamas; he would make sure they had a place to stay. Scott often said that being on the water was where he was truly the happiest.

Bottle collecting and metal detecting was another passion of Scott's that began as a child and carried into adulthood, often shared with those he loved.

Scott learned the construction trade from his father and eventually started his own construction, fire and water restoration business, Deas Builder & Remodeler, Inc., in 1995. His business still thrives today and serves the entire Hampton Roads area.

Scott was known and loved by many. His absence will be deeply felt by all whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Scott was an amazing person that I give my thanks to. He was more than the owner of the company he was a great person that helped everyone he could. I´ll miss him and the Deas family that he built will continue to be the strong company and we will always remember Scott. Great man.

Hannah, Raegen and the Deas Family: I am so very sorry to hear of Scott's passing. He departed much too young. I was the crossing guard at Hilton Elementary School and remember Hannah and Raegen fondly. I also remember Scott daily coming to get the girls, parking his big jacked up burgundy truck on the St Andrews side of main. Shuffling across & escorting them back, then when they got older he'd let them cross as he waited in the truck - window always down. Fond memories of this daily occurrence. And as he crossed with the biggest smile, I thought man, that man has nice hair LOL. To Hannah & Reagen, The road ahead will be rough - for awhile - Just remember: he is in your heart. Then soon, that roughness will turn to fondnessas we carry their beacon light. I always say: ' Until we meet our Loved ones again'. ~ Ms. Joy

It was an honor to be able work directly for Scott over the past year and a half. I will never forget our lunches together and the conversations we had. He truly knew no stranger. He will be greatly missed and send my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to all of his family.

Words are not enough to express the profound sense of loss we feel for our best friend Scott. The good times we shared are too numerous to list & the love we had between friends, too enormous to explain. He is etched on our hearts forever. He is everywhere we love, in every memory we have and life simply will not be the same without him. We've known Scott for over 50 years and that kind of relationship is irreplaceable. We will miss & love him forever.
