William Dewayne Desadier, age 59, of
Winnfield, Louisiana, passed from this life on Monday, August 4, 2025, at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana. Born on September 28, 1965, in Winnfield, he was a lifelong resident of the area and a man known for his big heart, steady hands, and love for life's simplest joys he was known by his grandkids as "pop". Dewayne worked for many years as a skilled lumber-grader and was employed at West Fraser in Joyce and later at Chaddy Shack. He found purpose in his work, but his greatest pride was in the role he played within his family-as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared his love of life generously, often through his passion for cooking. His fried pork chops and legendary "Pop's Potatoes" were family favorites, served with warmth and laughter around his table. A man of many interests, Dewayne was a longtime member of South Winnfield Baptist Church. He loved umpiring baseball and softball games, hunting of all kinds, cheering his grandson on at the car races, and spending time outdoors. Whether calling a game from behind the plate or sitting quietly in a deer stand, he was happiest when fully immersed in the moment. Dewayne was preceded in death by his mother, Sadie Desadier; brother, Herman "Pojo" Desadier; mother-in-law, Mavis Luc; nephew, Kenneth Gorum; and niece, Gaye Gorum Wise. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Luc Desadier; son, Marcus Desadier and wife Stephanie; daughter, Brittney Desadier; grandchildren, Nathan (Kathryn), Kelsey, Laekyn, Cullen, Cecily, and Hazel; and great-grandchildren, Kennedi and Landry. He also leaves behind his sibling Donald Gorum (Jeanie), Jerry Desadier (Annette) David Desadier (Pam), Bruce Desadier (Debra), and Linda Phelps (Monty), brother in law Byron Luc as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He is also survived by his beloved black cat "Midnight". Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8th, at the First Assembly of God in Winnfield with Reverends Jack Miller and Brian Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow at Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to return to First Assembly for refreshments and a time of fellowship in honor of Dewayne. Serving as pallbearers will be Willie Neal, Bobby Norris, Charlie Clark, Pat Keith, Tim Zimmerman, and Chad Vines. Honorary pallbearers will include Monty Lynn Phelps and Kreston Phelps. Dewayne lived a life full of laughter, loyalty, and love-and leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, shared meals, and the quiet strength of a life well-lived.
