William S. "Bill" Dickie

William S. "Bill" Dickie, a cherished pillar of the Canton community, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023. Bill (Moose) was a lifelong resident of Canton, where he cultivated a life rich in family, friendships, work, and service.
Bill was the beloved husband of Maureen (Close), with whom he shared a lifetime of love and devotion. He was a proud and loving father to Jason and his wife Michelle of Canton, Sean and his husband Blake of Los Angeles, and Lauren and her husband Russell of Canton. His role as a grandfather to Michaela, Brayden, Liam, Rose, and Patrick was his greatest joy, and his love for them was immeasurable. He was a loving son to his late parents R. Stuart and Charlotte Dickie. Bill was a caring brother to Robert Dickie, C. Janet Goodrich and John Dickie, and he held the fondest of memories for his late brother Raymond Dickie, who was his partner in crime. He was the favorite son-in-law to Rosaleen Close and survived by his many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A proud graduate of Canton High School's famous Class of 1964, Bill furthered his education by earning an associate's degree from UMass Stockbridge. Fulfilling his first professional passion, golf course design and construction, Bill was the superintendent and proudly helped shape Brookmeadow Country Club in Canton. A man with skilled hands, Bill transitioned his profession to plumbing and pipefitting, where he spent many days alongside his friend Billy Armando. Bill's commitment to service extended to his work with the Canton Public Schools, where he also shared his expertise.
Bill's involvement in his community was both deep and far-reaching. Canton was his home. A proud member of the Canton Town Club, he forged lasting friendships and contributed to various initiatives that benefited his hometown, including his contributions to the construction of Canton High School's Memorial Field House. Bill's dedication to youth sports was exemplified through his active participation in the Canton Youth Hockey Association, where he not only coached but also served as a board member.
Those who knew Bill would describe him as loving, kind, and incredibly handy. His ability to fix and create was only surpassed by his willingness to help others. Bill's interests were a reflection of his love for life and the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found peace and solace in the natural world. Hunting trips with Al Callahan and the famed fishing week with their lifelong friends Steve Hughes, Brian Leary, Sr., and Barry Ronayne were always a highlight through his life; Pittsburgh, New Hampshire may never be the same.
Bill's life was a testament to the values he held dear: hard work, family, and community. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those he touched with his kindness and generosity. His warm smile, hearty laugh, and the skilled hands that brought comfort and aid to many will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Reflecting on the life of William S. Dickie, we are reminded of the impact one individual can have on so many. His spirit, a beacon of love and kindness, will continue to guide us. Bill's memory will be cherished and honored by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
