William Dixon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perches - Graham's Funeral Home (La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home) on May 13, 2022.
William (Billy) C. Dixon Jr, 65 of Las Cruces, passed away on May 9, 2022 in Abilene, TX.
Billy was born in Odessa, TX to William C. Dixon and Ginger Kay McMurry on April 25,1957. He graduated from Permian High School in Odessa, TX in 1976. He played both football and baseball for Permian High School during their most successful powerhouse seasons. He met the love of his life Pamela L. Oliver at Trinity Baptist Church while they attended Hardin Simmons University. They were married in Las Cruces, NM on July 29,1978. He worked in the oil fields in Odessa until they moved to Las Cruces in 1980 to work for his father-in-law at Southwest Tank and Steel. There he learned welding, fabricating steel, and became the best crane operator his father-in-law had ever seen. After Southwest Tank and Steel closed, he began working as a construction superintendent. For the last fifteen years, he has worked as a Superintendent for Jordan Foster Construction company in El Paso, TX. His greatest work achievement was completing the Southwest University Baseball stadium, the home field for the El Paso Chihuahuas.
While raising his children, Michael and Chelsea, he actively participated in coaching his son in baseball and football and he was active in his daughter's cheer, dance and gymnastics. He was involved in every part of their lives. He had a love for playing softball, umpiring, was a referee for football, and most of all enjoyed playing golf with friends and family. He held many board positions that include Las Cruces Youth Baseball Association, Mayfield Booster club President for Football, Baseball, Mayfield Trojettes, and a member of the New Mexico Officials Association.
Billy was a mentor and leader to many youth across the city. He had many ways of showing his love. He teased you relentlessly, gave you a unique nickname, and you never got a free pass. Billy's greatest life achievement was his devotion to his family and his grandchildren. He spent countless hours watching them in sports, cheer, and recitals. His grandchildren lovingly referred to him as Papa or Pops and will forever be remembered by all.
Billy is preceded in death by his mother, Ginger Kay, his brothers, Ricky and Jerry, and passed with his sister Lori.
Billy is survived by his wife of 44 years Pamela Dixon, His son, Michael, wife Jennifer, and daughter Ella. His daughter, Chelsea and her children Sophee, Anderson, Savannah, Lincoln and Tucker, his father, William C. Dixon and his numerous nieces and nephews.
His precious grandchildren will be his honorary pallbearers.
A funeral is scheduled for Thursday May, 19, 2022 at 10am at Fairacres Baptist Church, 5100 West Picacho Avenue in Las Cruces, NM. A memorial service will also be held in his honor at Faith Community Church, 9902 W. University, Odessa, Tx Saturday May 21st at 1pm.
