William (Frank) Doane Age: 78 Knoxville, TN passed away January 14, 2025.
After graduating from Lenoir City High School, Frank chose to join the Navy rather than being drafted by Chicago White Sox. During his Navy tenure, he served 2 tours of duty as Hospital Corpsman in Viet Nam. Frank received numerous honors including the Silver Star Metal, the third highest military decoration for valor in combat; the Bronze Star Metal, a military decoration awarded for heroic service and a Purple Heart.
After service discharge, Frank returned to major in Sports Education at The University of Tennessee where he served as an athletic student trainer, and has always felt it was an honor to work with Phillip Fulmer.
After graduation, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry with several companies, including 3M, and was recipient of numerous national awards.
Frank was an avid golfer and a Vol For Life. He was a deacon at Ball Camp Baptist Church and a member of Central Baptist Church, Bearden where he taught children's 4th grade Sunday School.
Frank is preceded in death by son, Tyler; parents, Floyd and Lucy Alison Doane; sisters, Vivian Green and Mary Ruth Robinson.
He is survived by son, Landon, and Lois Doane; Jerry Allison, aunt, Lenoir City; nieces, Vicky Krueger, Harlgen, Texas and Tresa Valentine, Morristown as well as several cousins; Mabel Gilliam, mother-in-law; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Linda Lumpkins, Rogersville, and nephew, Logan, Catie and Lucy Lumpkins, Kingsport, Tennessee.
Service is Friday, January 24th at Rose Mann Mortuary; receiving friends 1 - 2 PM and service at 2 PM.
A special acknowledgment is offered for the excellent care Frank received at the Ben Atchley Veterans Home and the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Special recognition for the arduous commitment and excellent care provided to Frank by Christoper Tolleson, MD and Cindy Smith, NP at Cole Center, University of Tennessee Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UT College of Nursing, Pat Summit Clinic and Second Harvest Food Bank, East Tennessee. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.rosefuneraltn.com.
