Gwinn, MI – William F. Dowe, age 88, and former resident of Sawyer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti in Marquette, where he had lived for nearly two years.
Born on February 7, 1937, in Detroit, William was the son of the late Flora and Clarence Dowe. He was a graduate of Negaunee High School and, following his distinguished career in the United States Air Force, pursued further studies in electronics at Northern Michigan University.
William proudly served in the Air Force for 33 years, beginning in 1956 and retiring as a Master Sergeant from K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base. His service took him across the globe, including assignments in Pakistan, Thailand, Sault Ste. Marie, Wyoming, and finally back home to K.I. Sawyer. After retiring from the military, William continued to serve his community through his work with the Ishpeming Police Department.
A man of many interests, William was a passionate HAM radio operator and worked closely with the local weather bureau. He also enjoyed photography, reading, classical and country-western music, and had a lifelong fascination with trains.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bonnie A. (Thurston) Dowe of Gwinn; his children: Katie (Robert) Wadhams of Ishpeming, Wendy (Duwyne) Miron of Gwinn, and William "BJ" Dowe of Gwinn; and his grandchildren: Faith, Rebekah, Emily, and Raimond, along with several brothers, sisters, and cousins.
In accordance with William's wishes, cremation will take place.
