William Darrell Duncan (Bill), a cherished member of the Springfield community, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on December 25, 1930, in Springfield, MO to Ross and Clara Duncan. Bill was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Ross (Bud) and Donald (Don), and sisters Carol, Patricia (Pat) and Nancy, his son Darrell Wayne Duncan, and his daughter Teresa Applegate. Bill lived a life marked by service to his country, love, hard work and an appreciation for travel and gardening.

A proud veteran of the Korean War, Bill exemplified dedication, courage and honor throughout his military service. After returning home, he devoted himself to his family and his career serving Springfield in Public Works. After serving Springfield for 35 years, Bill retired as the Street Maintenance Supervisor for Springfield.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Duncan, and his sister, Shirley Kroutil. Grandchildren, Shane Hand, Scott Applegate, and Chris Duncan. Step children/grandchildren Charles Rogers, Robin Mendenhall, Steve Laxton, Kathy and Gus Laxton. His warm spirit, quick wit, consistent laugh and kind heart touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Graveside service for William Darrell Duncan will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2025, 1:00 PM at Greenlawn North Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring his life and legacy.

Bill's legacy of kindness and love will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. May he rest in peace.

The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to Adina and the entire staff at Close to Paradise in Springfield, MO. They provided around the clock care for Bill as he became part of their family.
