William G. Falconer, son of William and Evelyn (McLean) Falconer, a long-time resident of the Millersville-Gambrills area, previously of Sturgeon, Pa., went to his Heavenly reward at the age of 78 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Bill (or "Backhoe" as his family and childhood friends affectionately called him) was born in the Pittsburgh, Pa. area where the majority of his family still resides. He graduated from West Allegheny High School. He joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era and served for 3 years including one year in Korea. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Spec. 5.
In the Pittsburgh area he met Terra Barus. He moved to Maryland where she later resided and she became his wife in 1978. They were married nearly 47 years.
Bill was a strong Christian. A carpenter by trade, he went on mission trips to Haiti and Ecuador and used his skills to help build a church and to assist and advise at a missionary compound. He also took Mission trips to both Ghana and Cameroon in West Africa. Bill would pick up hitch-hikers and tell them about the Lord Jesus. He would speak about Jesus and the Bible on construction sites, and many tradesmen would stop and listen attentively as he spoke to one or two of the men, answering their questions about the Bible and God. He was a brilliant supervisor of many men and earned high praise in his occupation.
Bill had the gift of giving. He gave generously of his time and money to churches, Christian organizations locally and world-wide, and any needy people he encountered.
Bill was the oldest of ten children. The Falconers are a close-knit and loving family. In addition to his wife, Terra, he is survived by his sisters Karen Longstreth, Anita Moroz, Denise Harbison, Debbie Openbrier, Patricia Longstreth, and Lisa Vugrinovich and brothers Joseph Craig Falconer and John Brian Falconer. His brother, James Michael Falconer predeceased him. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
