William “Edward” Farley, age 95, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 13th after a short illness. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. Edward was the son of the late Ferman Farley and Dessie Smith Farley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life Eula Mae after 62 years of marriage, his daughter Helen Price, son-in law Joe Price and granddaughter Sharon Price, his sister Jerlene Farley.
Edward is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Messer and husband Bobby of Clyde, grandson Joel Price and wife Keri of Waynesville, granddaughter Krissy Deaver and husband Charlie of Waynesville, step granddaughter Lacey Ballew (Chad) of Kernerville, great grandchildren Allie Deaver & Grant Price, step great grandchildren Dillon & Kassi O’Neill.
Edward was born on Hazel Creek in Swain County and his family was forced to relocate when Fontana Dam was built. He spent his adult life in Haywood County where he worked in bus garage maintenance for the school system but his passion for cars gave him an opportunity for a career in the automotive industry and he retired from Anderson Chevrolet as Parts Manager after 30 years of service. During that time, he helped many locals and visitors who were stranded needing parts either after hours or on weekends. He was also co-owner of one of the first large wreckers for semi-trucks during the construction of I-40 through Haywood County. After retiring, he and his wife owned and operated Hazelwood Truck Service for several years. He was a dedicated Volunteer firefighter for the Town of Hazelwood and retired as Assistant Chief after 30 years.
Edward’s pride and joy was his family, and they spent many years camping and boating at Chatuge and Fontana. He also loved trout fishing and visiting Hazel Creek. He loved country music, bluegrass music, and loved watching old western movies and the RFD channel.
