William Wishousky Obituary

William G. 'Wic' Wishousky

William G. "Wic" Wishousky, 78, of Pottsville, beloved husband, father, brother and grandad, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the Pottsville hospital while his wife of 35 years, Patricia J. (Hillegass) Wishousky, lovingly held his hand.

Born on Sunday, Oct. 13, 1946, in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Harry and Helen (Turcmanovich) Wishousky.

He was a 1964 graduate of Tamaqua High School, where he was the starting center on the 1962 state championship Blue Raider football team.

Wic attended Drexel University on a football scholarship.

He owned and operated McAdoo Beverage and Tamaqua Beverage.

He served honorably in the National Guard from 1966-72.

After Bill and Pat relocated to the Midwest, Bill was a furniture salesman.

He was an avid Penn State football fan. He closely followed both the local basketball and football programs.

Grandad was a proud supporter of his grandchildren's sports endeavors and looked forward to visiting his grandchildren and watching them while their parents traveled. His grandchildren and their friends savored Grandad's famous homemade chicken soup and all his love and support.

He was a member of local dart and pool Leagues. He was proud of being the old man pitcher of his Midwest softball team.

Bill was also an avid outdoorsman who looked forward to hunting season and his time spent at his family's farm he lovingly looked after.

Grandad is proud to have met his three great-grandchildren.

A dog lover, Bill and Pat enjoyed the companionship of their rescue dogs, Boggie, Bailey, Bully and Benny.

Those beyond his relation even knew him as "Grandad " and he would advise them to never leave any fouls on the court. This is a life lesson they will continue to uphold in remembrance of him.

Surviving in addition to his widow are his oldest child, Sharon A. McCarthy, wife of Kevin, granddaughters, Kristina Henry, wife of Kevin, Caroline Grant, wife of Jesse, Emma, Mary Grace and Lauren McCarthy; son, Nicholas J. Wishousky, and his fiancée, Kathryn Hobgood, Jake Wishousky, Lena, Millie and Gwyneth Hobgood; a sister, Jean Pieczynski, wife of Ron; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Henry, Kevin Henry Jr. and McKinley Grant; a sister-in-law, Sallie Barton, wife of Bart; a brother-in-law, Michael Hillegass; four nieces and three nephews.

He was also predeceased by his younger brother Harry in 1974.
