It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Samuel Gadd, affectionately known as Bill, who departed this life on August 18, 2025, in Etowah, North Carolina. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bill lived a life marked by dedication to his country, deep faith, and love for his family.
Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force before retiring as a pilot with the Air National Guard, having achieved the rank of Major. His commitment to service also extended to the U.S. Coast Guard. Throughout his career, Bill exemplified the values of honor and duty, earning the respect of his peers and commanding officers.
Away from his professional life, Bill was a devout Christian whose faith guided his actions and interactions with others. He found joy and fulfillment in tending to his beloved farm, where he embraced the peace and beauty of nature.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel L. Gadd and Anna M. Gadd; his son, Mark A. Gadd; his brothers, Robert G. Gadd and Daniel Gadd; and his sisters, Mary Jane Watson and Maud E. Gadd.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 32 years, Judith A. Gadd, who stood by his side through all of life's seasons. He is also survived by his daughter, Deborah L. Mancino (Gene Gurley) of Palm Coast, Florida; his stepdaughters, Julie Caponi (John) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Janet Burnett (Randy McPeak) of Clover, South Carolina; his son, Kevin D. Gadd (Wendy Tittle Stallings) of Etowah, North Carolina; and his stepsons, James Shrewsbury (Renee) of Arlington, Texas, and John Shrewsbury of Bluffton, South Carolina. Bill's legacy continues with his cherished grandchildren: Rose Mancino, Lauren Bentley (Justin), Jessica Durkin (Jim), Jeremiah Mancino, Gage Gadd (Jenna), Katlin Gadd, John Caponi, Maria Caponi, Alan Shrewsbury, Tyler Shrewsbury, Katie Shrewsbury, Casey Spess (Daniel), and Dallas Choiniere (Matt). He will also be fondly remembered by his great-grandchildren: Cole D. Ledford, Maverick L. Bentley, Jackson J. Durkin, Hudson C. Durkin, Bodie P. Durkin, Jordan Gadd, Colton Gadd, Weston Gadd, Benjamin Spess, and Brooks Choiniere.
In addition, Bill is survived by his sister, Barbara A. McHugh of Heath, Ohio, and his special friends Dorwin Conwell and family, Ivan Pangle and family, as well as Gary and Judy Spence, who held a cherished place in his heart.
A small funeral service to honor Bill's remarkable life will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in
Black Mountain, North Carolina, starting at 12:00 noon, officiated by Cy Miller.
Bill's unwavering spirit, steadfast love, and gentle wisdom will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to those he leaves behind.
