William Darriel Gardner, age 72 of Tellico Plains went to his Heavenly home, while surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
He is preceded in death by his father, William “Herbie” Gardner, Sr. and mother, Juanita Phillips Frye; father in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Henry and Lena Harrison; sister, Aneita Gardner; brother, “Little Herbie” Gardner Jr.; nephews, Travis Bryson and Calab Gardner; special aunt, Joyce Phillips Allman; brother-in-law, Billy Martin.
Throughout the years Darriel dedicated his life to helping others in many different ways. He served as a volunteer firefighter at the Mount Vernon Fire Department. Darriel faithfully pastored many churches in Tellico Plains, leading several people to the Lord. He found God not only in church, but in life’s simple adventures as well. Whenever he had free time, you would find him fishing with his wife, other family members, or close friends. He also enjoyed his peace and quiet in the woods while hunting. Darriel cherished his wife Karen, precious daughter, Missy and family above all else.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Karen Gardner; daughter, Melissa Carol “Missy” Gardner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Penny and Clifford Holder, Patty and Phillip Taylor, Susie Martin, and Sonya and David Harris; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Mike Ables; special uncle, Ed Phillips; several nieces and nephews who were special to him as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of cousins. Darriel’s love will always be remembered by each of them.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2026 at Myers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Dr. Gerald Atkins officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Myers Funeral Home and will proceed to New Providence cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service.
