William Gerding Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Murphy Funeral Home - Ewing Township on Oct. 1, 2025.
William F. Gerding passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 30, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born on May 24, 1949, in Trenton, New Jersey, Bill was a lifelong resident of the area. He was the son of the late William and Olga Gerding. He spent his early years in South Trenton, where he helped his father on the milk truck and played football for Trenton High School.
He studied Industrial Engineering at Southern Illinois University and went on to have a long and successful career with the New Jersey Department of Transportation. He retired after making significant contributions to numerous projects and forming several lifelong friendships.
Outside of his professional life, Bill had many interests. He was an avid skier and an active member of the Trenton Ski Club, where he met his wife, Patricia. He also enjoyed gardening and staying fit, and was often seen walking with his dog, Reggie. Annual family vacations to Glen Lake, NY, were a particular favorite. Sundays were reserved for watching Eagles games with his sons, an activity that combined his love for sports with cherished family time.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who treasured time with his family above all else. He shared 47 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Patricia Gerding. Together they raised four children: Bill Gerding, Shelley Miller (and her husband Bradford), Nick Gerding, and Abby Gerding (and her partner Matt Campbell). He was the proud "Pop Pop" to Avery Miller and Isabelle Campbell, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Deborah Malone and Christine Schreiner (and her husband Russ). He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Kurst. "Uncle Bill" will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Also college friends that became like brothers to him, Jim and Richie.
Bill will be remembered as a supportive husband and father, dedicated professional, and a steady presence in the lives of those who knew him. Including, the many friends he made in his neighborhood "Glen Afton". His kindness, dependability and selflessness will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave, Ewing. NJ. Funeral service will begin at 6:30 PM. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of William F. Gerding, please visit our Tree Store.
